I’ve been making figures in mixed media ever since I walked into a doll workshop in Paris in 1973 in the Rue de Berthe in Montparnasse. I was 17 and immediately hooked! There were arm and legs everywhere, old faces and antique molds. Looking at the quality on the bodies I remember thinking “I can do that better”… I still have the doll that I saved for and bought at the end of my stay in Paris. That’s how it all started.
Over the years my dolls/figurines developed into, expressions of the wonder, humor, movement and whimsical personalities that inhabit my mind. They were born of the need to show people the unexpectedness of the world around us, if they only stop to notice it.
Their actual creation satisfied my restlessness.. It involved a wide range of art techniques and knowledge: construction, sculpture, anatomy, poses, proportion, facial expression, design, color, costume design, painting sewing and more.
They pull at the heartstrings……
