Using metal to form a figure was a spontaneous effect of my interest in found objects, the discovery of a metal scrap yard and the lack of movement and whimsicality I felt in the woodworking. Also forms that already exist in a durable and age-old material show a fascinating array of shapes that can be used as puzzle pieces to form another shape. Metal wire, on the other hand, offers a way to ‘draw’ a three dimensional object and give it strength and transparency. The shadows created with lighting are an extra bonus. It was a new and exciting and unique art medium for me.
